Mr. Azami always prioritizes your defense with the first goal being to obtain a dismissal. Obtaining dismissal of charges can be achieved by show the district attorney lack of sufficient evidence or by getting his client into a diversion program/deferred entry of judgment. There are numerous diversion programs such as: Court Diversion (Penal Code Section 1001.95), Mental Health Diversion (Penal Code Section1001.36), DUI Court (Drunk Driving), Drug Court, Veteran’s Court, Military Diversion (Penal Code Section 1001.80) and others. These programs generally require the client to complete a set of requirements with the understanding that a successful completion leads to dismissal of charges. Not everyone, nor every charge, qualifies for such programs but we can help analyze your qualification.

In addition to defense of criminal charges, Mr. Azami can assist with expungement of your criminal record. Expungements could be requested as a matter of right. Certain crimes and under certain circumstances qualify for expungement. When you file for an expungement, you are withdrawing an earlier guilty plea. However, keep in mind that expungements won’t clean your record for immigration purposes of for obtaining certain jobs like law enforcement. In addition, it won’t erase “priors” for subsequent arrests. For example, if you expunge a DUI of 3 years ago but then get a second DUI on the 5th year, that first DUI will still count to make the current DUI your second. Second DUI’s have harsher penalties. You would have to allow 10 years to elapse before your next DUI can be counted as a “first DUI.”
Warrants are usually issued when you fail to pay a traffic citation, fail to appear in court when ordered to do so, or when you violate the terms of your probation or parole. Mr. Azami recalls bench warrants so that you will not have to be fugitive any longer. Mr. Azami is experienced in handling warrants and we can save you time from having to go to court yourself. Sometimes it is even possible to recall the warrant on the same day.
